The New Brunswick contingent in the 111'th Boston Marathon acquitted themselves quite well and each finisher deserves a pat on the back for a job well done.
One runner in particular has a remarkable story that merits recognition.  Bob Forbes of Riverview ran an excellent time of 3:16, establishing a personal best for the distance.   What is truly amazing is that he achieved that excellent result almost exactly one year to the day after suffering a heart attack while training for his first marathon, which was to be in Ottawa in May 2006.  After undergoing angioplasty in Halifax, Bob was cleared by his cardiologist to resume running and he in fact ran his first half marathon in Ottawa.  Over the summer he continued training and ran a 3:17 at Marathon by the Sea in August. 
Having caught the marathon bug, he next completed the Niagara Falls marathon in October in 3:20. 
After a tough winter of preparation, Bob reaped the rewards in Boston, finishing with the 8'th best time for a New Brunswicker.  It is a truly inspirational story and demonstrates what can be accomplished with hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude.

Day of Reckoning for Gilles, Hans and Daryl
Because they were so brave as to make their Boston Marathon predictions, it only seems fitting that Gilles Gautreau, Hans Laltoo and Daryl Steeves should be evaluated on their performance.  Using a point system that compares the predictions with the actual finish places, Hans is the clear winner!  Hans correctly predicted Alex Coffin as the top NB finisher, and Todd Price in second place.  Hans also correctly predicted 5th and 6th place for John Herron and Bruce Guitard.  On my point system, in which the fewer points the better, Hans accumulated 18 points, compared to 24 for each of Gilles and Daryl.  Better luck next time, Gilles, Daryl .......
