Apr 25 2012 - Fast and Furious Rave Run selected as 5 Km Provincial Championship This is the 8th year for the Rave Run 5km road race. It is a school and community event to promote physical fitness through running and walking in and around the community. This year’s race will be held on Saturday, June 2nd and has been chosen as the 5km Provincial Championship by Run NB. RunNBwill award prize money to the top three male and female runners from New Brunswick. In addition, this year RunNB will be awarding special Prov Championship medals to the top three male & female. Prize money amounts are $80 for first place, $60 for second place and $40 for third place. Winners will also have their names placed on the very popular Run NB virtual trophy at http://www.anb.ca/VirtualTrophy. The race will also award double the normal Super Series points for provincial standings. Races begin at 10:30 with the futures series 1mile run and the 5km race starts at 11am. Alex Coffin will return trying to regain the title of provincial champion that he lost last year. Coffin has the course record of 15:31 on this fast and furious course. He could be challenged by Chris Brake, Bruce Grant and Dean Strowbridge to name a few. On the Women’s side, April Lambert, a former 5 km Provincial Champion and course record holder with a time 19:29, and may have competition from Brenda Guitard and Paula Keating to name a few. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the River Valley Track Association. The Rave Run will take place on Saturday, June 2 at River Valley Middle School in Grand Bay- Westfield. Apr 17 2012 - Paula places 193 overall in Boston The weatherman, or weatherwoman in this case, won the Boston Marathon on Monday with the 116th running of the world’s most famous race. Temperatures during the day ranged between 25-30 degrees c. Organizers emailed the race’s 26,656 runners Sunday to remind them of the risks of running in a “red-zone condition” and to give them the opportunity to defer entry until the 2013 race. Over 4,000 took the offer and decided to have a free race next year. Dr. Paula Keating, the Queen of Road Racing in New Brunswick was the top New Brunswicker to finish the hot 26.2 mile event in 2:48:58 only one minute and 32 seconds off her NB record she set last year in Boston.
