November 22nd, 2016
FREDERICTON (RUN NB) – RunNB is pleased to announce the host races for the 2017 provincial championships.
“RunNB encourages all runners to participate in our five championship events in 2017 and to continue to make our province such a vibrant running community,” said Rob Jackson, RunNB Chairperson.
During the recent annual general meeting of the RunNB committee, the following provincial championships were decided:
- 5km – Lameque 5k | Lameque | August 5, 2017
- 5 mile – Hampton Five Miler | Hampton | September 10, 2017
- 10km – Miramichi Rock n Run | Miramichi | June 25, 2017
- 21.1km – Legs for Literacy Half Marathon | Moncton | October 22, 2017
- 42.2km – Fredericton Marathon | Fredericton | May 14, 2017
In 2006, RunNB introduced the provincial championship event program to encourage runners to participate in different events and crown a champion in each of the five distances: marathon, half-marathon, 10 kilometre, 5 miles and 5 kilometre. The winner of each event will be declared the winner of the Provincial Championship. In addition, if the winner is not a resident of New Brunswick, the first finisher who is a resident of New Brunswick will be crowned the New Brunswick Provincial Champion. A resident of New Brunswick is defined as follows:
For purposes of records a person is considered a New Brunswicker if they meet either of the following conditions at the time during which the record-establishing performance is achieved:
a) is a resident of and has domicile in New Brunswick
b) resides outside of New Brunswick but had domicile in New Brunswick for a minimum of five years prior to the record-establishing performance.
What does New Brunswick residency mean?
The athlete has a place to live in New Brunswick.
What does it mean to have New Brunswick domicile?
The athlete has their main home in New Brunswick and identifies this place as their home. For example if a person is away at college, they may have two residences (one at college and one in New Brunswick) but they may still identify New Brunswick as their ‘home’ and return to New Brunswick during vacations.
