Stewart McKelvey Run for The Shelters presented by Atlantic Chip & Fredericton Marathon
October 16th, 2019

Though it is hard to imagine, our thoughts will turn to winter and all that it brings.

The Stewart McKelvey Run for The Shelters presented by Atlantic Chip & Fredericton Marathon is a new event designed to support the Fredericton Homeless Shelters and its mission to restore human dignity to those who are experiencing homelessness. It will feature a fundraising 3k and 6k run/walk on Sunday, October 27, 2019.

“We firmly believe no one should be left out in the cold,” said Bruce Macfarlane, co-race director of the Fredericton Marathon. “The Fredericton Marathon committee joined forces with Atlantic Chip Timing and others to put on a new event designed to promote healthy living and help our community at the same time.”

Registration is $25 plus service fees. The $25 registration fee goes directly to Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc., with registration information shared with them for tax receipt purposes.

“One hundred percent of the $25 registration fees will go directly to the Shelters. So, the more participants means more funds for the Shelters,” added Macfarlane.

First 250 registered participants will receive a special commemorative Runner’s Dri-Fit T-shirt.

This event features chipped-timed Bowman's PharmaSave 3k and f6 Networks 6k out-and-back runs along the city’s riverfront trail system to and from St. John House (Victoria Health Centre).

Start time is 10:00 am on Sunday, October 27th.  Race kit pick up will be held at Delta Marriott Fredericton between 12:00 – 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 26.

Let's raise some funds to help our friends and restore dignity.

The Fredericton Homeless Shelters Inc. was established in 1983 by a group of people to provide temporary housing for people who suffered from house fires or other natural disasters with a small mention of the transient population. Its mission is and to some extent has always been to restore human dignity to those who were experiencing homelessness in Fredericton and the surrounding areas. Since then, the Fredericton Homeless Shelters have expanded to three shelters, the Men’s Shelter, Grace House for Women, and Brunswick Home Transitional Housing.

Together, the shelters provide temporary housing to over 300 individuals every year.
