Doucet Competes at World Mountain Running Champs
August 10th, 2017

Image result for world mountain running championships 2017On Sunday, August 6, Shelley Doucet headed for the hills – or should we say, the mountains, in Europe. Doucet was coming off her Francophone Games marathon victory and made the trip to Premana, Italy to compete in the World Mountain Running Championships.

This 32km off-road race was a huge challenge, as described by Doucet on her Facebook page: “The race was extremely tough with nearly 10,000 feet of climbing over 32k. There was thunder and lighting and pouring rain, which made the steep downhill on rocks an adventure.”

Despite the challenges (or perhaps BECAUSE of the challenges), Doucet finished ninth overall in the women’s division with a time of 4:11:10. There were 443 athletes competing at this event including six Canadians.  Doucet was the top Canadian woman and was just ninety seconds behind the top Canadian man.  Congratulations Shelley!
