Wharfbound Beach Run Celebrates Five Years
May 29th, 2025

SAINT ANDREWS - The Wharfbound Beach Run marked its fifth year this month, with 87 runners competing over three distances - 19km, 11km and 5km.

This challenging hybrid trail race with road sections has grown in scope over the years, and now brings in runners from all over the province, as well as runners from Alberta, Quebec, Maine, Alaska and Australia. This year's Race Director Ian Covey says this year was undoubtedly the most competitive, with marathoners and ultra-marathoners racing against the tide and over rocks and sand and seaweed to make it back to the Saint Andrews wharf in the fastest time. This year was the fastest yet.

Course records were broken in multiple events, including the 19km for both men and women: Malcolm Gibson (1:29:42) (M) and Kelsey Hogan (1:34:47) (F); the 11km for women: Isabelle Leblanc (1:03:04) (F); as well as the 5km event: Mark McGuire (27:10) (M) and Claire Neufeld (36:39) (F)

Special thanks to all the racers and volunteers, Charlotte County Ground Search and Rescue and the Saint Andrews Fire Department for on-course support, Saint Andrews Brewing Company, Explore St. Andrews and the Kiwanis Club of Saint Andrews for financial support, to Kurt Gumushel and Mike Power for putting this event together over the years, and to RunNB for once again helping us host.
