Five Races This Weekend
September 19th, 2019

Five RunNB sanctioned road races will be taking place across the province this weekend. Kicking off the weekend in Memramcook is the Teen Challenge Freedom Run on Saturday, September 21. This is a fun event for the whole family! There is no registration fee -- sign up, get a few (or many) sponsors, and come enjoy the day! You can walk 2km or run 5km. Registration starts at 9am and the run begins at 10am, all at the Atlantic Men’s Centre.

Also on Saturday is the Tanya Shand Memorial Milk and Cookie Run in Quispamsis. This year we are celebrating 5 years of helping families escape domestic violence, 5 years of supporting families leaving and 5 years of giving survivors and families hope for a better tomorrow. The kids 1km fun run will take place at 10am through a portion of the Quispmasis Trails, with members of the Kennebecasis Regional Police Force cheering runners on and ensuring that everyone is safe along the route. This year’s proceeds from the fun run will be going towards children in this country who have been witness to domestic violence in the home and all those that have found safety in a women’s shelter. The 5k run/walk will take place in the beautiful trails of Quipamsis starting at 11am. Each km is dedicated to a woman from the area that has lost her life through domestic violence in our community. The women’s family decorates each of their km in memory of them. Starting location for both races is at the Qplex.

The 27th Annual Fall Classic in Fredericton will be taking place on Sunday starting at the Government House Woodstock Road at 8am. There will be a 3km, 5km, 10km and half marathon. The courses will be overall flat on paved trails along the Saint John River.

The second race on Sunday will be the Annual Rotary Run to Fuel Young Minds in St Stephen. This event has been in existence since 2008 and offers an 800m cross-country event for kids ages 8 and under and also for grades 3-8 at 9am, as well as a 5k for adults at 10:30am. The starting location is the Garcelon Civic Center. Donations are accepted and will be given to the St Stephen-Milltown Rotary Charity Inc.

The third race on Sunday is the September Run for Renee 5k at the Rockwood Park in Saint John. The Run for Renee 5k series is partnered with the Kidney Foundations’ fundraising walk for their September race. This is also a double point race for those who are part of the series! This is a no-frills race, but it's fast and friendly! No t-shirts, medals, or chip timing, just some refreshments at the end. We have a points system for the 7 races in 2019, with some small prizes to be awarded after the final race (using the same procedures for points and tiebreaking as RunNB). Start time is 12:55PM.

Good luck to everyone this weekend!
