Event of the Year

41st Fredericton Fall Classic Fredericton, NB

The Fredericton Fall Classic has been a longstanding race and a cherished fixture in New Brunswick’s annual calendar of events.

A Community Tradition Since 1983, Celebrating Its 41st Edition in 2024

This event is a testament to the power of local spirit and the passion for running that thrives in New Brunswick. Entirely organized by the community, this beloved race draws runners of all levels from across the province and beyond.

Year after year, the event has built a reputation for being one of the province’s most popular gatherings of running enthusiasts, due in large part to participants, volunteers and local sponsors who make it all possible.

With over 600 participants lacing up their shoes in 2024, the event truly embodies the heart and soul of New Brunswick’s running community. The Fall Classic offers runners the “Green Bib” option—a new initiative that offers a more affordable entry point for those who want to join the excitement without all the extras.

RunNB views this event as more than just a race; it’s a celebration of community, movement, and the shared joy of crossing the finish line together.

2024 RunNB Outstanding Contributors

Dean Strowbridge - Willow Grove, NB

Dean has been a main fixture on the NB running scene for about 25 years. Not only has he been running for a quarter century, but he has also been a top tier distance runner for most of that time.

If Dean didn’t win a race, he would be a keen observer of how/why the winner was a bit faster and would learn from those small defeats. Dean has been an astute student of running and in recent years started to give back that knowledge to young and upcoming runners.

Dean is now a distance coach for the Saint John Track Club. As a running mentor to new runners, Dean brings special qualities that go beyond technical knowledge. Some have described his coaching qualities as a role model who brings a positive & encouraging energy to all his athletes. He brings the same passion has a runner to his coaching and this love for his sport is contagious.

Dean has had lots of success in road racing and hold several provincial track records in both indoor and outdoor track.

Dean was awarded RunNB’s Male Runner of the Year in 2014. He has logged more than 200 RunNB road races placing in the top three in most of these events.

In 2016, shortly after his dear mother passed away, Dean started the Run For Renee 5K to honour her life. This event has been held in Quispamsis every month between April and October for the last nine years and has been a big success for all runners in Southern NB.

He touches everyone that meets him in a loving and positive way and some would describe Dean as having that special “Quiet Charisma”.

Colin McQuade - Riverview, NB

In 2024, RunNB Outstanding Contributor Award to someone whose dedication has greatly enriched New Brunswick’s running scene. This award celebrates those who tirelessly promote running and healthy living, and this person’s contributions truly embody this spirit.

His involvement in our community is both extensive and inspiring. As a founder of the Greater Moncton Running Club, he’s been a key part of establishing a supportive, connected network for runners in our area. This past year, he organized a 9-week runner’s workshop with guest speakers on topics ranging from nutrition to training plans to injury prevention. He’s also worked and volunteered behind the scenes, certifying race courses to ensure high-quality events. When he’s not running in an event, you can find him on the sidelines, cheering loudly and supporting his fellow runners.

His personal achievements as a runner are remarkable. His 2024 marathon season kicked off in April with the Boston Marathon, where he finished in an impressive 2:59:46. In August, he ran the Paris Marathon - a journey that took two years of dedication to achieve. Running through the streets of Paris, alongside thousands of runners from around the world, he embraced every step of the Olympic course with joy in his heart.

In September, Colin represented New Brunswick at the Abbott World Marathon Majors Travel and Tourism Age Group Championship in Sydney, Australia. Just two weeks later, he joined friends to run the Legs for Literacy marathon, where he embraced a different purpose. His coach, Daryl, reflected that Colin used this unique experience to truly understand what running means to him, remembering that it’s not all about the destination, “the journey is the real achievement.”

Locally, Colin’s commitment to fostering a supportive community continues. He leads a Sunday long-run clinic for beginners, generously sharing his experience and expertise. He also helps organize events like the Ice Cream Run, creating fun and welcoming opportunities for runners of all paces.

For his unwavering dedication, his inspiring journey, and his contributions both locally and internationally, RunNB is thrilled to present the RunNB Outstanding Contributor Award to Colin McQuade.
